Robotic palletizers are becoming the default at the end of the line. These five integration decisions determine whether they actually pay off.

Why palletizing is the new battleground

Labor for hand palletizing is scarce, expensive and injury-prone. Robots are consistent, fast and available 24/7. But a palletizer is only as good as its integration with the line and the warehouse.

Decision 1: throughput per robot

One robot handles 400 to 1,200 loads per hour. If your line exceeds that, choose twin-robot or gantry architecture before you discover it in commissioning.

Decision 2: single or multiple infeed

Dual-infeed robots balance surge between two lines and eliminate one machine's worth of capital. Verify the control system arbitrates line priority the way your production planner thinks.

Decision 3: slip sheets and layer patterns

Export pallets need slip sheets, tie sheets and validated layer patterns. Pattern auto-generation software removes the guesswork and reduces damaged pallets in transit.

Decision 4: pallet standards

Euro, US and custom pallets differ in dimension and entry style. The palletizer's clamps and positioning system must be matched to every pallet type you actually use.

Decision 5: data handoff

Palletization data — load ID, pattern, timestamp — should flow to your WMS and ERP. Choose a palletizer with OPC UA and MES-ready interfaces as standard.
